That's interesting. I've seen crazier things work when trying to resuscitate a dead computer. :)
I already got the replacement HD installed and setup. I was going to try a IDE -> USB external drive converter and attempt some salvage work when I had the time.
If I'm feeling motivated I might take apart my Powerbook and give it a shot...
